Chosen Solution

Hey, I recently purchased a refurbished 2017 15" MacBook Pro with the notorious butterfly keyboard because I wanted a recent machine that will last me 2-4 years. It does have a 2 year warranty but I still wanna ask, what can I do to improve the longevity of my keyboard? Btw I really love how tactile and clicky it is 😄.

You could use an external keyboard. At home or where convenient, less wear, longer life. The usual advice is keep liquids away, keep it clean (canned air) It seems these keyboards break at the drop of a crumb, so keep your snacks away… you could go so far as to apply a silicone keycover but that would alter the feel somewhat. Just hope it breaks before the warranty is up if it’s going to break,. or it will cost upwards of $700 to fix it…

Hi Me personally I wouldn’t worry about it too much as some machines go on to live long lives and apple has a repair programme for it if you device is a certain age The butterfly keyboard issue was there but it isn’t as common a people think as if you look for it online your going to see every one who has ever had it and posted it It’s like asking the internet who has ever punctured a new Audis tire, your going to have quite a few but that doesn’t mean don’t enjoy the device My advise would be make sure you don’t get it too dirty and don’t use it in extremely dusty areas Hopefully this answers your question Thanks:-)
