Link sys comes up instead of my own set-up whenever I go to turn on my Wi-Fi. I have to manually override it every time. At 84 yrs of age, I am not computer savvy, so need step by step help.

You should not have to select your wi-fi preference but once on any Mac. This tells me your system is somehow losing it’s memory. Probably caused by a lack of power somehow. What would help us diagnose the issue is knowing exactly which model you have and what operating system you have. We can then look at if it has a PRAM battery that needs replacing, a bad capacitor, a bad main battery or if we just need to get your setting locked in. If you want, you can just give us your serial number and we can get you that information or you can go here and input it and then tell us. That serial number can be found by going under the Apple in the upper left hand corner to “about this Mac” > sometimes you have to then go tohardwareaccording to how old the system is. It can also be found (in very fine print) on the back of Unibody models orin the battery compartment of older machines. As to age I’m just a kid at 70. But been working on Apple products for 38 years now and know almost all of them ;-)
