I have the old 2011 Macbook pro with a broken battery. I disconnected the battery cable from the logic board and used it just like that for about more than a year or two now. Today, I tried removing the battery itself to try and make the laptop lighter, followed some instructions online how to make it run but the fans throttled and it was unable to start itself. So I had to put the battery back with the battery cable still disconnected. So here is my question, why is it throttling when I remove the battery from the laptop but not when I just disconnect the battery cable from the logic board?

The reason has to do with the sensors within the battery your logic board uses (SMC). Why don’t you just replace the battery? It’s not overly hard MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Early 2011 Battery Replacement and here’s the needed part MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Early 2011-Mid 2012) Battery
