The battery on my watch has become very unreliable lately. (Forerunner 405) It will die within 2 hours from the time I take it off the charger. How will I replace the battery myself, so I don’t have to pay $70 and ship my watch to Garmin? Thanks for any help!

Here is a link i found for the replacement battery - but have NOT used. http://www.akku-wechsel.de/shop/alternat… Two other useful links for dismantling and replacing the battery are: http://www.jimandkatrin.com/CodeBlog/poshttp://sites.google.com/site/ctorunner/d… Hope it helps GONZO

It is a soldered in battery - 3 milliA battery. This will requiring removing the back panel and unsoldering the old battery and resoldering in the new battery. I found a website that sells the battery for around 20 Euros (right under $30).

It is very difficult to replace the battery without damaging the seal ring. Also the power connection is not easy if you don’t have special tool Also the battery is welded. I try to replace the battery damage the seal and finnaly bough a new Watch factory repaired with 1 year guarantty for$ 100. I already have the betl and the PC adapter. Also I managed to located a battery but the cost was $ 45. So my recommendation is to buy a factory repair watch.

You can get the batteries that have the right solder tabs on ebay. I tried one of the generic ones and they it only lasted for 4 hours even though they claimed extended run time. I ended up replacing it with the genuine Garmin battery from Route JD and it runs like new… more than 8:30.
