Chosen Solution
hey everyone, So, as the title says, the home button of my iPhone SE is working fine, but the Touch ID isn’t, as it says “Unable to activate touch ID in this phone, try again later”. Things I tried to do:
- Tested Touch ID on ios 10;
- Tested Touch ID on ios 11;
- Reconnected Home button cable;
- Hard reset. I tried all that, but it still doens’t work. I think this’s weird, because the home button is working fine. I think there’s no solution but it’s worth the try. the device got repaired on board (IC U2 & FL 2400 component). Thanks, Ricardo
Take a close look at the flex cable on the button, preferably with magnification. Look for any damage or tear, no matter how tiny. I would also closely inspect the connector on the flex and on the dock flex as well. The U2 repair shouldn’t directly impact it unless the flexes were slightly damaged upon re-assembly.
I have that message with my 5s, but it’s because I replaced the home button. It works the same with the SE, the home button and the board have to match for Touch ID to work. Repairing the IC component shouldn’t have affected anything. Here’s an article that discusses it as a solution for Touch Disease (6/6+), with no mention of affecting the home button or Touch ID, so I doubt the board work would have caused the issue. Even on a 6, the home button and logic board need to match for Touch ID to work. My suspicion is that it’s actually a new home button. I’m not sure what else would cause that.
