Hello. Did a battery replacement for a friend on a 5S. Unfortunately, his screen would not easily pop off the base. I pulled a bit too hard and it sprung open pulling the Touch ID ribbon cable off the board connector sending the metal bracket flying. I thought I borked the whole thing but upon further inspection the ribbon cable was intact and everything “seems” undamaged. No scratches, tears or other. Now the Home Button and Touch ID do not work at all. I understand if I broke the Touch ID stuff, but I don’t understand why home doesn’t work. I did remove the screen as part of the fix (not comfortable with the 90 degree can trick). I’ve reattached the screen connectors a bunch of times as well as reseated the Touch ID cable a dozen times. I can’t get either Home Button or Touch ID to work. I realize I broke something but I’m unsure what part would affect both. The actual Home Button feels perfect, springy, and normal. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You probably damaged the cable where it connects to the button or the other end plugging into the lightning dock, no other reasonable explanations for the issue. It’s a bit unlikely you can really see much without a microscope or at least some decent magnification and a good light source. Not a fixable problem on a DIY basis a not worth the cost of the repair on a 5s, even if you’d find someone able and willing to repair it.
