I successfully replaced the screen on my iPhone 6. To keep the Touch ID working I kept the old home button and put it on the new screen. I noticed that since the adhesive on the rubber is gone, that when I press the button it sinks in. Bye bye waterproof I’m thinking lol. I made a video:
This is normal, the phone was not waterproof anyway. The gasket is really annoying to get it to stick again.
to start, the iphone 6 is not waterproof in the first place. i would suggest against using it in the rain, that gasket is to keep the button aligned with the orifice it belongs to, while maintaining a springback feel. (not the only mechanical part that offers this. However, being inset in the device can be a cause of a couple things.
- Loose screws on the mount
- The flex does not fit properly on the folded circuit
- The glass is manufactured thicker than the standard Screen glass.
- the screen’s plastic frame is not manufactured correctly.
- multiple of the above. There is a possibility that the adhesive on the rubber gasket may fix your issue, but i would guarentee it, as i replace home buttons on iphones regularily, and it is usually a manufacturers flaw on the screen when i see this. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. To really find out, I could put it back on the original screen and see if it fits good there. Again thanks ! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
