Chosen Solution
I changed the screen on my phone. The original home button works fine with the original screen. It does not work with replacement. When i power it on it does not pop the unable to activate home button etc warning at all. in settings i can go into fingerprint section and select add print, but it does not register. home button does not work. Is it the home button cable on the replacement screen?
The home button flex cable from the screen to the logic board will have a small tear. This usually happens at the 90 degree bend and might be hard to see without magnification. Your only solution is to replace the screen.
I have had this issue in the past. The home button on the iphone 7&8 are not a actual “button”, they are just touch sensors. The only real way to keep your home button working is to switch over the original when doing a screen replacement, if not you will loose all functionality of the button. I replaced a screen on a 7 and switched over the home button, but the button didn’t work at all. I switched over the metal heat shield that has the original home button flex cable into the new screen and it started working fine. I also made sure that the bracket and the button itself were all aligned and tightened. Hope this helps, good luck!
