I’ve just replace the digitizer on my iPad 2 GSM, and now the home button doesn’t respond. I don’t see how the home button even interfaces with the logic board, as it seems to just be a small PCB board behind the actual button, that doesn’t connect to anywhere… Any ideas of how to fix please?
From my experience the home button won’t work if it’s not low enoughh to make contact with the contact areas it is supposed to sit on. When you replaced the screen , if there was too much tape put on, the button won’t sit low enough to make contact, or if there was not enough tape the screen may not sit close enough to make contact again because when I replaced mine, I didn’t have enough tape to hold it tight against the chassis. If it worked before you changed the screen I doubt it went bad just by removing it. Either way you will probably have to take it apart again. Since you have to take it apart again, you could remove the screen, remove the button from the screen and just put the button on the area on the iPad where it should sit and see if you can get a response out of it. It’s possible the screen isn’t exactly in the same place it was put at the factory when you took it off and put in back on. Since there are no wires to connect to the button it has to sit exactly on the contact points in order to work…hope that makes sense..And I hope that helps.. Let us know what you find out..
Same problem…with a twist. The home button worked initially after installing a new LCD and Digitizer but then stopped working. I disassembled the unit again and found that the HOME BUTTON RIBBON WIRE CONNECTOR HAD SLIPPED JUST PART WAY OUT OF THE CIRCUIT BOARD CONNECTOR. After lifting the latch, carefully reinserting the ribbon connector as much as possible and closing the latch…all worked fine. Whew…Life is good again. BTW, SAVE any parts (like the OEM home button, etc) you replace (okay, not a cracked digitizer) as you never know when you may need them.
Try putting the home button in from the old screen. I just had this issue too and the design of the OEM button was a bit different (wider contact points) and worked like a charm where two aftermarket replacement buttons did not work.
I had the same problem, I also replaced the wifi antenna during this process. The home button connector came loose off the mother board. I took it off and reseated it and then everything worked. The charger is also connected to this. The connection is under the tape that the silver shield protecting the wifi chip is attached to on the bottom left corner of the ipad. hope this helps
I had the same problem. When you removed the old digitizer, the thin flex cable from the home button to the volume buttons was stuck to the glue and tour a small piece out on the right side near the top. You will need to order a new home button and volume botton ribbion cable.
The two gold plates on the home button assembly connect to two gold prongs on the ipad. These must be properly aligned. Ensure you re-assemble the wifi antenna off to the side in its correct place and not over these two prongs.
I just have the same problem. I tried with more/less tape, and tried to “build” down the home button connector, but still no success. I had some other replacement screens in my store. And when I tried a new one, it works… no problem with the homebutton.
Found that the female connector was not gripping the push button cable tightly. Used a drop of “5 second fix” uv activated glue to hold it in place. I also found that when the digitzer was pushed down flush with the bezel along the bottom edge by the home button, the home button would not work again. Problem is that home button did not perfectly align with the cut out in the aluminum housing. Bottom outside edge of the button hit the inner edge of the aluminum chassis cutout. I placed a second layer of double sided tape with a tiny bit over the home button wings. That raised it just enough for a tight seal and good button function with a nice click.
I have a iPad 2 and a thought I fixed the touchscreen but the home button isn’t working. Any suggestions please?
