a week go I bought a used logic board on eBay for a replacement (my old one has a fried wifi chip) and it came with a home button of its own. After replacing the logic board, I realized that even though I was very sure not to affect anything else except the replacement of the board, the home button now does not function. I tried the other button, but the same result occurs. should there be anything I need to repair besides the logic board, or is the new board at fault here?

Best thing to try would be a dock replacement that is the only part in between HB and the logic board. If that doesn’t help the issue would likely be on the board or its socket to the dock assembly. Here’s the guide: iPhone 5s Lightning Connector Replacement

The motherboard you bought from ebay must have its original home button otherwise it will not work at all or just will work only for home not for finger sensor will not be recognized.
