On iPhone 7 and above, Home button simply cannot be repaired if the button unit is damaged beyond recovery. Nothing will work with the replacement button. If the 3D Touch doesn’t respond as well, it is likely due to torn cable on the screen. There are two cables on the lower half of the display, one for display power and signal, the other for 3D Touch and home button. That cable has a right-angle turn that is super fragile. You should never subject it to ANY tension. Open up the phone just enough to access the cable bracket, unscrew the screws then disconnect the cables before pulling the screen any further. Opening up the phone flat like iFixit does in their repair guide is wrong, it is highly likely to damage the cables in that way. If the cable is damaged, for regular DIY repairs, all you can do is to replace the whole screen.

only the original home button or a genuine obtained and synced to the phone from apple (costing upwards of £300) ill fully function as long as the cables aren’t damaged inside the phone, if the option of going to apple isn’t then you can buy a replacement home button like you have done off the internet but it will only ever work with a passcode, there is one you can buy which connects via Bluetooth to the phone which will at least stop the error messages throwing up saying that they can’t be activated.
