Chosen Solution

Ok. So I need some help. When I opened my phone the other day, I replaced my battery but before that I accidentally cracked a lil part of the screen below the home button as pictured below. Then I really screwed up. I accidentally dropped the phone and the front camera cable snapped in half. I learned a valuable lesson lol. Then I put it all back together and the home button/id isn’t working. Tried replacing it with 2 other buttons and no click for the home button on either one of them.``

Solution. I replaced the digitizer and it’s working again. For some reason the digitizer and home button functionality are tied into each other.

hello Andrew, click and touch id will only be available with your original button. It cannot be replaced due to security restrictions. You probably damaged one of the tapes (the shorter one) of the screen. The most common cause of such failures is the tearing of the tape when trying to remove the sticky screen. The damage does not have to be large, there are 16 connections with a cross section of less than 0.5mm inside. Screen replacement will help - this is the fastest and cheapest solution. You can replace the backlight assembly itself, cost around $ 8-12 but it will be difficult to get it right the first time. Additionally, you will need a good soldering iron and a lot of manual skills. Good luck.
