Chosen Solution
I have recently dropped my iPhone into my cup of tea and now the home button does not work. The top half of the phone did not come into contact with any water, it’s just the bottom half. The phone still functions, however the home button does not work and the speakers are a little crackly (i’m not to bothered about the speakers, I can live with that!) When I place the button to my ear I can hear a a sort of noise - any ideas on what this may be? It’s been on the radiator..in a bag of rice, you name it, i’ve tried it! All in all, I was wondering if anybody could suggest any ideas or solutions. Do i need to get it repaired professionally or are there any solutions that I could try at home? Any ideas would be much appreciated
Gwen, the very first thing to do is to clean your phone. Rice and the radiator will not prevent any corrosion, nor will it clean the phone. Use this guide to disassemble your phone. It is not as difficult as you might think. Once it is disassembled, use this guide to properly clean your phone. Once cleaned, replace your battery and re-assemble and re-evaluate. It is possible that you need to replace the home button or even the home button flex, follow this guide. Like I said before, it is not as difficult as it might appear. Hope this help good luck.
There could be damage/corrosion on the home button circuit or on the dock (The home plugs into the dock module, which plugs into the circuit board). If you are comfortable and have the tools, you can open up the phone and have a look at the dock to see if you see nay corrosion. Examining the home button circuit will be a little trickier, as you have to completely take the phone apart to see the entire home button circuit. If you do see any corrosion, you can attempt to clean it using a brush (like an old tooth brush) and Isopropyl Alcohol. If you are not so comfortable with taking it apart, there are several repair company’s out there that specialize in iPhone repairs and would be able to help you. They are just one Google search away.
Hi Gwen you ever get this sorted?
