I had a battery replaced for my pixel 4 and applied 3m adhesive strip. I applied heat to the back when installing it and put some weight until the morning. Next day the top of the back cover came off. I was wondering was the heat unnecessary to apply the back? Or is the adhesive bad? I bought it off of eBay for “phone repairs”
Usually 3M tape doesn’t do so hot for device repair. Using heat and a little bit of pressure is typically preferred to ensure a good seal. Just be aware that because you opened your device, you don’t have liquid resistance anymore. Luckily, iFixit sells replacement back glass adhesive for your device. Order two or three just in case you mess it up. There’s also dedicated parts suppliers you can order from that will typically offer a better warranty and quality parts such as Mobile Sentrix, Injured Gadgets, and Mobile Defenders. Those are the top 3 and you can’t go wrong with either one.
