Hi guys, I recently bought a Macbook Pro late 2011 from eBay, and it sure has seen better days. There is no sound at all and resetting the Nvram and SMC did not fix it. The headphone jack also does not output any sound. When I check the sound preferences, there is no output and input detected. The only way I can get sound output is through bluetooth. Also one of the usb ports is not working. The seller claimed to have no water damage, and upon further investigation on the logic board, there really isn’t any corrosion.
The headphone jack has a switch inside which directs the output to either the headphones or internal speakers often it gets damaged. The other possibility is the Codex chip is blown. In this case I’m suspecting the later here as you state the Sound preferences Output tab is not showing the Internal speakers or the Input is not showing the Internal Microphone and/or the Line In, double check if that is correct. As for the USB port I would try a powered USB hub which then you connect something to test it to see if the power services are gone Vs the USB driver logic. If the device responds on the dead port then you have a simple fix a blown fuse link. Both are repairable, but, you’ll do need to have micro soldering skills and the proper tools and access to the needed parts. I would recommend you locate someone with these skills to service your system or replace the logic board your self.
Is there a way to fix the sound if the switch in the audio jack is damaged?
