Chosen Solution

A couple of years ago, I purchased an ASUS R556LA laptop and I tried to watch a video through my TV via the HDMI connection and the video is displayed but no audio. I have tried a number of things from researching this issue (including rebooting laptop while connected) and still nothing. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi, Just verifying that the audio does work on the TV’s HDMI input when you try another source, e.g. DVD player or the like? Also if you have Win 10 installed here is a link to the latest Asus Win 10 drivers, that may be of some help. Do the audio ones only at this stage. Fix one problem at a time, so as not to confuse the issue. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

@drod2070 , Dan, You may have tried this already. Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound and then in the small window that is presented, there are two options: laptop speaker and TV, change TV to default. Or right click the speaker in the bottom right corner click on playback settings then choose the device you want to send the sound to and make it the default sound. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

First, do what @jayeff said and go to that link to download drivers. This problem is more than likely a drivers issue. Do that, then go to Device Manager and check for updates on all system devices. If you have Nvidia graphics, go to GeForce.com and download the correct drivers. If you don’t have a Nvidia GPU, just check for updates under display adapters in device manager. Trust me, download the correct drivers can do wonders for PCs and laptops.
