I’m trying to open the keyboard up which is proving difficult. I need only to replace the battery, so this is really my only obstacle. Any help is appreciated.

Flip the keyboard over so you can see the back panel. Look on the side of the edge where the back panel and the top panel meet. Slowly pop the back panel off so you DO NOT break the keyboard flex cable connector.
