I was told by Apple that my 2011 MBP needs a new hard drive. The Samsung was recommended. I know nothing about hard drives so can someone tell me the difference between these two Samsung choices? Samsung: SSD 860 EVO 2.5" SATA III 1TB $129.99 OR SSD 860 EVO mSATA 1TB $189.99
You’re better off with the SSD 860 EVO 2.5" SATA III 1TB $129.99 because it’s compatible with your Mac without an adapter. I’ve had bad luck with mSATA drives being used with adapters personally and I don’t recommend those types of drives be put in Macs that don’t natively support mSATA. Also, if you really want to step up to SSD speeds you can buy the mid-2012 HDD cable which supports faster SSD speeds, rather then the slower cable you currently have (presumably) in your MBP that was meant for HDD speeds.
