Sadly no. You new HD is much to fast for this older system. Your MacBook has a SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) Interface which can only support a HD or SSD which can run at this slower I/O speed. In your case your HD is a SATA III (6.0 Gb/s). You could try checking if your drive has a compatibility jumper (older drives had it). If this is a newer unit that won’t be an option.
