The speakers in my Samsung 40” TV are starting to have distortion. Replacement speakers are pricey. I am wondering if anyone has experience with this and if there is possibly a mounting issue or another route to investigate first. Thanks!
Hi @matthamilton , Some troubleshooting steps that may help: Have you tried adjusting the audio by using the TV menu Sound options see user manual -p.19 e.g. mode, equalizer, dialogue clarity to see if any of these improve the quality? Prove that the speakers are the problem and that it is not a TV audio amp problem or an audio input/input cable/input type problem. Connect either an external sound system to the TV’s audio output connections or use headphones if the TV has a headphone jack (the user manual is not clear if it has one or not) and check the audio. If there is no headphone jack and the external sound system is also distorted, try using different input types and/or signal sources to check if you can narrow down the problem. For example co-ax input and HDMI input are both digital signal input types, Component video + audio and Composite video + audio are analogue signal inputs which don’t use the digital signalling processor on the TV mainboard. If the signal source is a “box” of some sort, as opposed to an antenna try connecting a dvd player and check the audio from it. If the audio is distorted regardless of the input/input type/signal source but only occurs when using the TV speakers then you may have to isolate each speaker in turn in case it is only the one that is causing the problem (assuming that it has two speakers). Be aware that when listening to stereo audio with only one speaker it will sound different but should not be distorted If the audio is distorted regardless of input/input type/signal source and also occurs with external speakers then there is a problem with the audio amp/audio circuits on the mainboard
