Where can I get the glass front panel for the HTC Evo 4G? My son dropped his already and it broke. Thanks.
Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to obtain a new glass front panel at the moment. Maybe eBay, craigslist, etc. However, on a good note, we just released a full set of repair guides for the HTC Evo 4G, which includes front panel replacement. Good luck! EDIT - fixed link
OMG, I broke mine today! Dropped it on the left bottom corner and the glass shattered. If you don’t have the protection plan, Sprint won’t do anything, HTC “does not have a repair plan in place” and the companies that can repair it say it will take 14-21 days for the replacement parts to become available. Fortunately, my phone is still functioning perfectly and the glass is staying in place because I have a really good screen protector on it. I will just put some tape on the sides and wait for the glass to show up on ebay and replace it myself. The companies that can do it are quoting about 150 bucks. Yeah, I have been at this all day. I can assure you many people are going to break the glass in this phone. Poor design, just like the iPhone. Update http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-EVO-LCD-TOUCH-SC… Here it is folks. You can buy it and then find a local shop to replace it. Although I think that I was the first one to break mine, my phone is totally functional so I am going to wait a while to see if the price comes down a little. I doubt it though because that is the price for the replacement for the HD2 and they are in essence the same phone. http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-EVO-LCD-TOUCH-SC…
Looks like you can’t get any now, unless you can contact Sprint or HTC, and if it’s under warranty that might work. Otherwise you’d have to wait for broken ones to show up on eBay. Here’s one you can get.
Maybe you can work something out with this supplier.. I’m not sure if this is the right part, but it sure seems like it to me: http://www.ocularlcd.com/library/specs/F…
I shattered my phone today as well. I dropped it. The glass shattered like ice as the previous poster said. I purchased a body glove for it, which is good I’m sure for the back end, but all the protective cases leave the front (glass portion) fully exposed. I also had the plastic screen protector that Sprint sells. So that screen is what is holding the glass in place. I pay for the $7 insurance monthly for years. This is my first claim. I’m currently being asked for an affidavit with my drivers license BEFORE I can even have my claim CONSIDERED. 48 hours after they have the form I will be notified if my claim is accepted and from there I have to pay $100 to receive my replacement. I really thought they would just replace the glass. I guess I better hope I don’t drop it and that the little plastic screen protector is worth the $12 I paid for it, or else I will have a shard sticking from the side of my face while I wait for approval. sigh
There is one on ebay right now, search HTC EVO replacement LCD, it comes with a battery for $119 (includes shipping). As always use your discretion.
So bit of an update here- found what looks like a good replacement supplier, get the front glass plus digitizer here, and if you need the LCD you can get that here.
Jacob So taking this to the Sprint store can get it fixed for 35.99 sounds like the best answer. Could you tell me which store you took it to in case they try to say it wold be more expensive at another store?
Dropped this phone once and it shattered like ice. Very poor design when it comes to durability. No replacements for months and no replacement parts. Very disappointed as I have only had the phone for 1 week. Going to talk to Sprint about changing to something more durable. Please let me know if HTC or Sprint is going to do something about this phone.
If you order a replacement on Ebay, I would suggest that you spend a few dollars more and get the one for 149 from Dr. Watson. That kit includes everything, the front with glass and touchpad, back, and the back cover. This way, the only things that you are keeping are the internal boards and the battery. Therefore, everything is more likely to fit together than if you just buy one new piece and then reuse the old pieces. Best of luck! My Evo is fixed and looks great again. O and I can’t speak for the other places but Dr. Watston shipped very fast…from Texas to Florida, I had the part on day 3.
Can you get the glass only? most of the postings on Ebay seem to be glass and lcd.
It seems that youhave to take the glass with the LCD. I went through this nightmare twice. I received one order where it was the glass and LCD. my son and I got the evo apart. No big deal(did get #5 tork and plastic prying tool). putting it back together, we were putting the 6 screws back in. well tightening them up (nothing crazy by any means)one of the center screws cracked the LCD. I said, OK, the LCD on the old one was fine. Getting the glass off was OK, but it’s the seal(foam with stickyness(Is this even a word), but the gasket(seal) did not come off clean. When we got it back on, texting and any typing did not produce correct letters. Couldn’t callibrate. so back to ebay. I now have it replaced and everythings good, but expensive lessons. Good Luck
Sure you can get the glass only and you can also fix it yourself. However, two things. If you get the glass, you run the risk of it not working properly as Dave has verified. If you search around the internet you can find those that have recorded the “taking apart of the Evo” and they clearly state that it is VERY difficult to get the glass back in properly because of the gasket. Yeah, Dave said that too. You can pay 100 dollars for the glass or 150 for the entire assembly. Next thing…why would you pay 100 or more for the glass/assembly and not just take it to a shop and let people that do this type of repair for a living do it for you???? It cost me 45 bucks to have a “professional” perform the repair and I couldn’t be happier.
Ok this kind of sucks because I broke mine too, I have been contemplating just doing the insurance, but after paying $200 for the phone and accessories (Zagg Shield, Rubber Case and another crappy case) I am a little exhausted on dealing with Sprint. So I found a supplier that sells the Digitizer (glass outer shell), it is $75 but they want you to order a minimum of 3… I do not want three and frankly I am leaning towards just getting the ebay replacement case, lcd and digitizer for $115. for $40 more I get the LCD and case. But here is the site that carries the digitizer. http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Product… edit** http://cgi.ebay.com/US-Sprint-HTC-Evo-4G…
You really should by the lcd and the digitizer. You stand a better chance of everything fitting properly.
I sent mine HTC EVO with shattered glass screen to repairuniverse.com They received on Monday morning and sent it back to me the following day via priority mail. I had them do the repair for $34.99. Or you can just order the screen and replace yourself. They have guides on how to do it.
I found a place that will do it for $109 or $149 for both LCD and glass. I am reluctant to post the site because I had to talk to a dumb b1tch for 30 mins (a lot of waiting), only to find out she didn’t know the difference between “&” and “or”. The web site says it’ll fix both LCD and glass for $109, when that is not the case, as sated above. But I digress, I believe they are perfectly qualified to fix your problems if you want to send your Evo in. http://www.missionrepair.com/Mission_Rep… As for me, I’m going to save $50 by ordering a screen replacement and following the instructions on this site. Just go to ebay, type in “htc evo replacement” and you’ll find one (looks like base price is $52). http://compare.ebay.com/search/htc+repai…
As to protection I just got this in and think it would have provided enough protection if I had had it at the time I dropped my phone. I shattered the glass on mine as well. There is just enough plastic on the edges and corners (I think) to provide some shock resistence for the evo. Here is the amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZHV… It was one of the less expensive ones and does not bulk up the phone overly much.
I purchased the case as well as a screen protector when I purchased my evo in October. 10 days later I droped it on a tile floor and now I have a spider cracked phone. Thankfully it still worked while I waited on my replacement. Unfortunatly this has happened again which bothers me for a number of reasons. First, the phone fell only about three feet onto a hard wood floor. Second, Asurion only allows two replacement phones within a year. Third, this evo has now cost me 400$. I think HTC needs to fix this problem asap, take a lesson from apple and put some better glass in the phone. P.S. cases and screen protectors wont help.
I just broke my evo screen 2 days ago, bought there parts, followed the directions and boom fixed evo. i did have trouble removing the screen to to the massive shards of glass that kept falling out but i got mine switched out in about 2 hours. only problems I ran into
- addition plastic layer on the sticker that cover the cables you need to remove
- plastic tools started to melt removing the glass due to the heat gun. without this site i would have been 550 poorer. thanks guys
I took my crack in the screen to the sprint store and they replaced my screen for 35.99 + tax. the guy did all the work for me and was done with in about 15 minutes I highly recommend getting it done this way. I have an htc evo 4 g and I too droped it on a tile floor and fractured the screen. I did not have insurance on my phone and was very pleasantly surprised by the price in service I received!
It seems as if everyones phone tends to break at the bottom left corner… Mines did, I dropped the Evo not even 6 inches from the ground. I have insurance on it but this would be my second repair and I just received this replacement less than a week ago, so Im s.o.l and have to do the repair myself. Im so livid about the screen, it sucks. my iphone lasted me longer until it shattered. I thinl they need to invest on better glass for the screens because I’d hate to have to go back to the iphone over something that could easily be fixed.
I’m having trouble with the bottom buttons (home, menu, back, search) after installing the new screen. I saw that the old screen had small plastic pieces attached to it and my new one didn’t. Anyone else have that same problem?
My top right corner cracked and the crack went down to the middle and bottom left. Called HTC, they said they will repair the phone, but i’m not sure of the costs yet. Very delicate front..
