Hi People I really like this page, it is great to find so many tips on how to save money by repairing your mac by yourself. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a procedure to find out what causes the problem and therefore what needs to be replaced. I can’t switch on my macbook (white, from 2006). The battery is working, RAM and HD are OK. Ithink that either the keyboard is broken or the logic board. Is there a method to find out which one causes the problem before buying expensive parts to repair it? THX
The very first thing to do on repairing any Mac is to determine which one you have. There are four different 2006 white MacBooks. They have four different processors. This information is needed to get you to the correct parts and guides. It’s found in the battery compartment. We can also look it up from the last three figures of your serial number. Next, assume nothing. How do you know the battery, RAM and hard drive are working? Always try to get a history on the machine, problems are sometimes progressive. Apple techs have manuals on the procedures taken to identify various problems. Please give us the serial figures, and history and what you have done so far. Thanks UPDATE with the serial number I can identify your machine as: Apple MacBook “Core 2 Duo” 1.83 13" Specs Identifiers: Late 2006 - MA699LL/A - MacBook2,1 - A1181 - 2121 I’ll change the picture in the upper right to the correct one.
