I have a friends Galaxy Tab A 10.1 the screen just went black. I powers on and responds to touch on the back and apps keys. I can’t even get it to turn off. The screen is completely black and doesn’t respond to touch. I can’t get it to turn off, I tried holding down the power button but it was still on. I left off of the charger over two nights then I plugged it in and charged it for about an hour and tried the home/power/volume up but nothing still black screen, and still sounds from back and apps key. What are the steps to troubleshoot this problem and possible causes.
Hi Ben, I read on some other forum to press and hold Power Button and Volume Button (both up and down) together for 10 - 15 seconds and it should work. I tried all other methods (except physically opening the tablet), none worked. However, the above said works every time i experience the issue with my tablet. Best Regards, Mian Umer
In most cases it’s actually just a loose display cable. It just needs to be seated in more because they get a loose connection over time. SM-T580 suffers from this problem and all other variants of the 580.
Hello Ben . has the tab had a fall or water damage? If not you can try removing the back cover and disconnecting the battery for a few minutes . This will allow for a clean boot and may resolve your problem This video shows how to replace the battery just disconnect the battery and reconnect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zslF7P5W… While you have the back open check the cables for the screen to make sure they are secure . If after reconnecting the battery you have no joy then I would suggest the LCD has died and needs to be replaced This video shows how https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4jGAD7e… Repacement screens can be found on ebay or amazon Hope this helps
your answer guys is a loose screen ribbon takes about 10 seconds to fix… here is the youtube video. once you tighten that screen ribbon back in line make sure you disconnect the battery ribbonand push the power button for 10 seconds to kill all power residing in the tablet. put the power ribbon back in put the back back on and hey presto you can boot up a working TAB A 10.1 :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDrhbTwd…
This happened to me again tonight. I have 2 tablets and this one isn’t used often. It went black on me tonight and I googled this to find the answer as to why. Another post I read said to take it out of the protective cover because the magnetic closure might be interfering. I have done this numerous times in the past and it never goes black when I use it without the cover. I had forgotten about that suggestion. I have not looked yet for a different cover that doesn’t have the magnets along the sides to keep it closed but maybe that would be the fix.
I got it fixed under warranty, the cable attaching the screen to the board had come loose. It can be done yourself easily if you know what you’re doing.
I recently encountered this same issue with my son’s SM-P580 model tablet. Using the Power Button + Power Down combo the best I could achieve was a brief backlit on/off, then nothing. The only way I knew it was on was due to notification sounds. I cracked it open and disconnected the battery for at least 30 seconds. No dice. I then disconnected both the LCD ribbon and the ribbon right next to it, reconnected both, and then the tablet started working normally. Phew!
how can i unlck my ggole locked galaxy tab 3 sm-t597w

I don’t have an answer, but a question. I’ve had black screen many times, the fix was always realigning the display ribbon. but THIS time, my issues started with the displaying flashes of solid colors and even patterns (ie black n white checkers). I pulled the back power cable to stop it. now it’s black screened. resetting ribbons and holding any combination of the pwr or vol +- are not working. the only thing the power vol - button produces after 10-30 seconds is the display backlight lights up 3 times. I should note that I can still hear notifications and swipe unlock sounds. Any help or insight is appreciated!!
I’m a bit late on parade, but i had the exact same problem with mine. Black screen, wouldn’t charge, and showed no signs of any life whatsoever. Very simple fix though…? Pop the back off the tablet. Then your faced with the circuit board and the battery. Disconnect the LCD ribbon from the connector plug on the circuit board. Peel the green tape back and gently ease it out of its socket. Then plug the tablet into the charger and leave it alone for an hour. After an hour, unplug the charger lead, and reconnect the LCD ribbon back into its socket on the circuit board. The vitally important thing to do is make sure that the tiny little plug on the ribbon goes into the socket correctly. There is a white line that runs across the plug, and another white line on the circuit board socket. When you ease the ribbon back into the connector you need to make sure that the two white lines are 100% perfectly in line with each other. If your even the slightest bit out of line, it won’t work. Then once you’ve plugged the ribbon back in correctly, push the power button down to test it before putting the back casing on. The tablet will come back to life as if by magic. Snap the back cover on again, and plug it back into the charger. It’ll work like it did when it was new. If it doesn’t work, it will be because you haven’t lined the white lines up with each other. So repeat the process again.
