Sorry to hear about his iPod. Unfortunately, you can’t use any previous generation screens for your 4th generation iPod touch. It uses the same type of display as the iPhone 4 (not the exact same part, though), so the glass, digitizer, and LCD are all one inseparable piece. If you find the part somewhere, all you would have to do is find a decent disassembly or repair guide (our teardown might provide a good starting point). As you can see from step 15 there, you have to remove the entire logic board before you can take out the display assembly. Update Since posting this we have created a front panel replacement guide for the 4th Gen. iPod Touch. This instructions will be much more helpful than the Teardown. Unfortunately, we still don’t sell the part, but we do sell the necessary tools.
Also, as you will find, there are no suppliers out there that are selling the front panel/LCD assembly with the home button installed. The home button is not easily replaced as it is unlike previous models and is “fused” to the front panel. Has anyone found a method to remove the home button from the damaged panel and put it onto the replacement panel??
HEY I keep watching repair vids, and reading guides and some mention an adhesive, 1 is that the only thing keeping the display assembly in place? and 2 if 1 is true then where can I obtain some of this adhesive? EDIT: James I know that it is adhered together!!! I KNOW also I KNOW where to get the proper adhesive stickers to “glue” the screen/digitizer assembly to the bod here it is! http://cgi.ebay.com/iPhone-3G-3GS-4-4G-i…
I bought a front glass only and the company I bought it from (iRepair) had no instructions or warnings on the replacements. I am pretty good at small repairs and have done Apple hard drives on early macbooks. The glass and digitizer are not separable! I used a quality heat gun and the amount of heat to soften that much adhesive is excessive. The perimeter adhesive was no problem as it is a thin line. I do not believe that the glass only can be done on a Gen4 touch.
No first call apple then see if u have a warranty even though my iPod screen is cracked and I called and they won’t fix that because they don’t have workers who fix screen so they say u need to pay 99$ which I’m not paying for. Do my best option is to buy a digitizer which is that glass that is cracked and they cost around like 15$ up to 45$ but they also have this upgrade for the screen that like the iPod 5 screen and its a lot better than the other display which was for iPod 4g but my iPod has the white front when I get a new screen it’s gone be read because they have many different colors but yea first have a chat with apple and if there no help I would buy my own screen and I would fix it or have a person who knows how to. I cracked my iPod screen yesterday and apple ain’t do nothin about it so just see what they say to u an let me know my number is 317-565-7693 so yea have any question let me know what’s on your mind god bless and have a great day
I have a coworker who’s grandson broke his glass, we are on the second wrong part this one even said with the digitizer I do not want to try and seperate them please help or can I seperate them at all
Check connections on all your ribbon cables. I’ve repaired iphones and know what if you don’t seat the cables properly they can come apart during assembly.
a good place to get the parts are here or at etechparts.com i just recently repaired an iphone 4 with a screen i got there and it is oem and has a 90 day warranty. from wht i have read they get their parts directly from apple
Yep bought my parts from etchparts also just drove over there and picked it up since I live in Olathe.
I dropped my ipod touch on concrete. No missing pieces, but can i still get it fiixed?
