I suspect that my vehicle needs new shocks as I hear a knocking sound occasionally. It is NOT internal (to the engine). How do I determine whether or not the noise is coming from the shock, and not somewhere else. Ya, ya, I know, listen for where the sound is coming from. I just want to be sure as I share the car with my girlfriend…. Thanks. JD
JD, The knocking you here could be a few things, worn CV joint,bad strut, bad strut mount/bearing, broken coil, worn bushings,bad ball joint, etc. best to take it in to a good shop have them diagnose and estimate repair. If repair estimate seem’s too much and you are able, do repair yourself, at least you will know what part to change. check the link below to see how to check front end clunks.
