I am wondering if the iPhone 4 and 4s back panel and front digitizer assembly are interchangeable. There are an abundance of these parts floating around on ebay and I would like to know if parts available for the 4 will fit the 4s. In the teardown it is mentioned that the tab locations for the digitizer is identical to the GSM version, does that mean most of the replacement parts available for the iPhone 4 will fit the 4s? Update thanks for your quick reply, however, I would like to hear a little more about your experience. perhaps you can elaborate a little more. which model iPhone did you compare this to? and what exactly was the problem? in the teardown, it is mentioned the tab alignments are compatible with the gsm iPhone 4, is the LCD and digitizer connector the issue?

Well my client ended up going to the Apple store and they went ahead and replaced it for them for free. I didn’t get to open it up and test out which parts fit before they took it to Apple. Darn U Apple! Why you gotta be cool like that and have amazing customer service?!?!? I did, however, come up with a way to “modify” the clips. I used a Dremel to cut one of the clips off. I practiced on some broken AT&T ones from previous repairs. Side View Stock The Dremel bit I used Cutting ALMOST completely through the clip Bending clip back and forth until it comes off As it should be fairly obvious, and I cannot stress this enough, BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH THE DREMEL The clip rests right against the LCD and if you even so much as nick the the LCD it’s going to be toast. Assuming that the iPhone 4S uses the CDMA (Verizon) iPhone 4 top glass assembly as others have stated, this should make it a perfect fit once you cut that clip. There are 9 other points to screw into the frame even after the removal of the one so it should be more than sufficient to not cause any problems. If I get any more calls to repair a 4S, I will come back here and update when I know for sure. Until then, Good Luck All :)

the parts are not interchangeable - (i already compared those 2 phones)

You CAN use a cdma digitizer in the 4s models, there is only one tab that needs to be easily clipped off and one tab on corner that needs the hole slightly ovaled more with a dremel or just not put a screw in that one. (And I mean slightly, very little dremeling required) Watch my video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMXAszt7M… hope this helps from TheLinuxMotion.org

None of these answers are clear!!! Based on what I have read, I am going to assume that the 4S and 4 screens are not interchangeable. Why are we talking about GSM and CDMA in this thread anyway? This thread should be moderated.

All of answers leave questions.. please be clear! Are the mounting tabs for the LCD and SCREEN the same as the iphone 4 (verizon and att) the same as the GSM and CDMA for iphone 4S? Excluding the bezel around the screen that closes in the phone to hold it together. this is different i know but its easily changed!

Hello all, instead of cutting the tabs off of the iPhone 4 Frame to fit on the iPhone 4S, You can either pull the old frame off of the broken iPhone 4S(as long as the frame is in good condition), Or you can order an iPhone 4S Frame from Ebay(Link Below), The Screens are definitely the same and compatible, however I have noticed that the iPhone 4S is slightly brighter than the iPhone 4. iPhone 4S Frame

the iPhone 4 and 4s back panel and front digitizer assembly are not interchangeable. if you are going to find good price lcd screen, touch screen assembly for your iphone 4s. SPAM

I have an AT&T iPhone 4 with a broken screen, so I went to ebay and bought a new LCD + digitizer. Well I didn’t realize until after but I purchased an iPhone 4S LCD + digitizer. Will the iPhone 4S LCD + digitizer(also GSM) work on my iPhone 4?

the LCD panel are compatible with each other but the problem is the frame of the LCD panel for iphone 4 and 4S. if you are improvising then you can change the frames and thats it.

I had a customer today with an iPhone 4s front panel cracked I just replaced the panel with an iPhone 4 assembly. The “tabs” everyone is talking about are just attached to a frame you can carefully peel off and use the one from the original. Between the verzon iphone 4 and att iphone 4 these screens work just fine. However, with the same LCD in iphone 4s only the backlight turns on. I still have to make sure that the lcd itself wasn’t a defective part. I will be switching it back again and let you know what happened. Just to be clear on the “tabs” and “clips” everyone is talking about If you look carefully around the screen there is a plastic frame. Just use your nail or a razor blade insert it between the frame and the glass and it comes apart. slowly slide the blade or your nail around the screen and it peels off like a sticker. If it is attached too strong, just use a heatgun to soften the glue. Re-Use the one from the damaged screen peeling it off with the same method. Apply some double sided 3mm sticker on the upper and lower ends of the glass and slap the frame on. You will be good to go. Plus the 3mm sticker also makes the digitizer itself stick onto the phone’s metal housing, holding it even better.

I do repairs on a daily basis, and I use my Verizon screens for my 4s repairs. Ive done tons just by cutting the one tab that doesn’t fit back onto the phone off with titanium scissors I found at home depot. I have not found any problems with 1 of the 10 screws being missing.

Holly &%% stick i got my #!# done »> i just changed 4s & 4 motherboards haha.

You can compare the iPhone 4 front digitizer assembly with the iPhone 4S front digitizer assembly ,,actually they are not interchangeable
