Our 10 year old whirlpool fridge quit running. Stuff started melting, we emptied it. I was cleaning it thinking we’re getting a new one… turned the cooling dial down because that’s what I do when I defrost and clean my little fridge I have in my classroom before the summer starts (I’m a teacher). When I turned the dial to be less cool, the motor (or something?) kicked on!!! A little while later I turned the dial to make it even colder and it’s working. What could have been wrong? Do you think it will break again? Is it not reliable anymore?

It’s going to break again, but it could be 10 years from now. I would go in and clean the coils and go over the screws and tighten everything up. Examine the wiring for loose connections and cold solder joints. Have a plan for what to do if it fails.
