You mentioned above that if there was oil on or near the compressor or condenser coils then there was no need to do the PCB tests. In such a case, what would the next step be? My freezer and fridge are not cold, but the fridge is still running. I cleaned the coils, and noticed the oil in the pan near the coils with what looks like some corrosion.
John Dolence, if there is oil it could only be from the refrigerant. It has leaked out from the sealed system. Only a certified refrigeration tech can do sealed system repairs per the EPA guidelines. Refrigerant is not only bad for the ozone, it’s flammable. The cost to recover, repair and recharge can start at $350.
