iphone works fine untill i open the phone app and try to make a call and then the phone will freez

Do you mean touch screen freezing / not responding when call screen is on? If that is the case then it’s most likely a bad screen and least likely a damaged front camera cable.

Try the following troubleshooting steps in order, testing between each step.

  1. Power the phone off and back on again
  2. Reset all settings by going to Settings - General - Reset (this will change your wallpaper and ringtones back to default, along with all other user changeable settings but will not delete any data)
  3. Make a backup of your data on itunes or icloud then restore to factory settings by using Erase all content and settings under Settings - General - Reset NOTE - this will erase all content on the phone be sure to have a secure backup.
