Suddenly my system shows these small horizontal flickering lights (see image and video). They only appear sometimes, I think it is color dependent. I already tried to reset NVRAM and SMC but with no luck. My system did not fall or experience any other damage that could cause this. It’s only 23 months old. Any idea what this could cause?
Ouch! Not good! Your display’s T-CON board is failing. Is your system covered under AppleCare or AppleCare + ? If it is you can relax. If not you’ll need a new display assembly which is not cheap! Here’s the needed part Display Assembly, Space Gray Apple P/N 661-07970 and here’s the guide MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017 Display Assembly Replacement Update (06/08/2019) Sadly its the only option as the T-CON is wired directly to the LCD panel and can’t be separated from it. As far as why it fails. There is one theory, the heat sink is located just above it and the heat radiator is located just to its side so its possible the heat could be effecting it (cooking it) if the vents are blocked or the fan is not working effectively. So make sure you don’t sit the system down on a bed where the covers block the vents and I would get a thermal monitoring app like TG Pro so you can monitor things and even boast the fan a bit if needed.
