- Canon PowerShot SX 200 IS
- My camera´s flash doesn´t work. It pops out as it should, but it doesn´t flash and the sign in the display says “flash off”. Can´t be switched on.
- Canon support says it has to be replaced for 100 €. I would like to try to repair it myself, but have no idea how to do it and which spare parts I will need. Could anyone help me? It seems this problem is widely spread with this type of cam.
- )) I have already set the cam back and charged the battery, so that´s not the problem. Thanks, Ute from Hamburg
Ute , this seems to be a common error with that type of camera. You do want to make sure that all your settings are properly set. Check your user manual page 62 and 70 for the settings. If that is looking okay, you may have a stuck switch in the pop-up cover. This would lead the camera to believe that no flash is available, and thus you get the no flash symbol. Until I get the proper service manual I would suggest that you try this. Switch the camera on, remove the battery. Flash keeps open. Remove back cover from the camera. There are 2 black screws on the bottom, 2 chrome screws at the left side and 1 at the right side, next to the HDMI connector. Use a few puffs of compressed air and spray a little contact cleaner at the lever switch (left backside corner), gently hit that lever with a small pin several times against its spring to clean. Reassemble, replace the battery and re-evaluate and see what you got. Hope this helps, good luck.
