Hello, I installed a new OWC 1T SSD chip and another 1T SSD to replace the HDD on my iMac. I also touched on the CPU & GPU area to clean and reapply the thermal paste (now I wish I didn’t) At first, it had 1 LED on, and the device didn’t power on. After some research, I changed the PRAM battery and rechecked the CPU area, and I found a small bent on the edge of the CPU. I fixed the bent as much I could and reapplied the thermal paste. After that, I turned it on, and now 2 LED is on, and the fan is spinning! But still, there is no sound indicating the device is working normally. I tried the PRAM reset, and it is the same: no sound, 2 LEDs is on, Fan is spinning. Can you point me to the possible problem in this circumstance? Thanks in advance for any help
More likely you over did the thermal paste which is now interfering with the CPU/GPU’s signals and/or you didn’t properly seat the CPU. The TIM must not exceed the edge of the heat spreader of the CPU and the silicon chip area of the GPU. You also will need to check the CPU’s socket for a bent pin.
