I have killed the fan connector pads on the logic board (2012, 13”). Where on the logic board can I make the four connections for the fan? Update (11/17/2018) Thanks for the reply Dan. This is a picture of a logic board with the connector in place
. This is a picture of my defective board.
. I am thinking that I could make the four connections elsewhere. As far as I can determine, reading from left to right, the connections are GND, PWM, TACH, 5V. Thanks Victor Update (11/17/2018) Here are some better pics. You will see that 2 pads are completely gone. The other 2 show solder but I am not sure they will stay connected.
Update (11/17/2018) Here is an example I found on iFixit of what I am looking for.
. I am not sure it’s the same board as mine. This one is for a A1278 from 2011 (820-2936). All I know is my computer is 2012 13in. Update (11/17/2018) I don’t have a better camera at the moment, so this is the best I can do.
. I have the schematic but not the board layout. What do you think about the jumper wire pic I sent earlier? I don’t think I need to use a socket if I connect directly to the fan wires.
Victor, it doesn’t look good ;-{ You have at least one SMT component which is damaged (marked in green) and I think I see some burn’t areas as well. Lets try using some cleaner to clean off the junk (glue?) and do one more pic straight down as you did here just a bit tighter.
I need to check the schematics and board view to see where the connections go. You still will need a new socket connector as well. Update (11/18/2018) Well it does look like you have enough surfaces to reconnect the connector (you’ll still need to get one as yours looks too hacked up). Here’s the connection points:
You’ll need to carefully clean the coating off the middle left trace and via point on the far right contact. Using solder wick clean off the other two still good pads and the two other points on the other side which are to hold the connector down. Place the new connector in place using Gel Cyanoacrylate (super glue) on the bottom using a slightly wet with some isopropyl alcohol cotton swab (Q-Tip) dabbing around the edge to set the glue after you’ve soldered the four good points. Once the part is set use some fine gage wire to bridge to the alternative points. Do use care reconnecting the cable into the connector. I’m still concerned the SMT transistor thats near the connector wasn’t damaged. And No! You don’t want to bugger up the connection without the connector as these solder points are just not strong enough to handle it.
