Chosen Solution

On the Kenmore Elite Dryer (electric) F40 appears where the time is kept. The dryer comes on normal but after selection go to push start and it won’t start. That’s when the F40 appears and starts to blink on & off.

Lisa Tiller, this sounds like an Oasis model so it will help if you can give us your model number to verify. The F40 error code indicates a communication failure between the main machine control board and the motor control board for the blower motor on the dryer. This can be caused by a loose wiring connection blown thermal fuse on the dryer, as well as a bad thermistor that is causing the dryer to overheat . Check the attached Tech-Sheet—W10156034.pdf for more info on how to check this.

F40 code oasis model. Seems like it could be multiple issues reading through the posts. For my issue, i checked the back of the main control board. Had a burn spot on the board, loose solder connection that arced. Cleaned it up and soldered the connection, works again.

I don’t see any burn spots on my oasis ST (single motor model, so it doesn’t have a motor control board) main control board. There hasn’t been any problems on the the user side of the interface board (the buttons, etc) and my dryer does work occasionally, whereas other times it will immediately flash f40 after running for a few seconds. So it is intermittent… no actual pattern to recognize. I changed out thermal fuse and thermistor, and vacuums out all lint, and even took the back off and vacuumed the ducts. I don’t want to spend 200-300 on a part, if id on’t need it. how the heck do I figure out what the problem is?!
