After I washed my car the engine had a hard time turning over. After starting the car I did not have this problem until it rained recently. When trying to start either the engine tries to turn over or I get a clicking sound like the battery is dying. I believe I need to replace either the battery or alternator was wondering if I could get a more exact direction to go in.

Take it to AutoZone or similar auto parts store and have them put a load test on the battery. They will do this for free. When batteries are dying they can have enough voltage but not enough amperage. The load test test them both. AutoZone also tests alternators for free. I believe they can do it while it is still in the car. You may want to call and confirm they will test the alternator with out you removing it.

try taking the alternator/distributor cap off and drying. I had this same problem following a thunderstorm. a quick spray with wd40 sorted the problem.

Take a multimeter and measure voltage on battery. If the voltage is less than 12.5V, you need to replace or recharge the battery.
