Chosen Solution
I just replaced the ear speaker on an iPhone 5S because of very low volume. Install went smoothly, speaker port is clear and the black gasket is in the correct position, still very poor volume from the ear speaker. Everything else on the phone works fine, any ideas what else could be causing this problem? Thanks Update Been trying to fix this and I finally found something that worked: Settings—General—Language & Region scroll down and change the language to English (UK) Exit settings Go back in a change language back to English (US) I found this solution online, and I thought there is no way this can do anything. My wife’s phone now works fine, the volume for the ear speaker is back to normally. Any idea’s on why this did anything?
Assuming you have tried increasing volume within a phone call you can take it apart and remove the ear mesh glued to the screen where the ear speaker attaches to. It will look as a hole instead of having that dust protector. If that works you can buy that little piece and add it later on. It is common for that ear mesh to get so dirty or something spilled on that would block the sound :)
In the “settings” - “general” - “assist” and shut down telephone noise elimination. You can try it.
You can try to Change the way in holding the phone or turn up the volume when you are calling. If the voice still very low, take it to the repair shop.
I tried the English UK thing but it didn’t work at first. It only worked after I set it to English UK and restarted my phone and then changed it back to English US and restarted my phone. After the restart when I changed back to English US my 5c is loud again. I also took a qtip and cleaned the gunk out of the ear speaker and got even louder sound. My qtip was black on the end. I used alcohol on the qtip. Don’t understand the fix but by golly it works.
