We have a very old Inglis IP82000 dryer. A few weeks ago we found the dryer was running fine but no longer producing heat, and would not shut off at end of cycle (ie. ran indefinitely). I investigated and found the heating coil to be burned out/broken. Replaced element and everything seemed to be back to normal. Today dryer is not turning on (cycle will not start), but heating element turns on when dial is set to a warm air cycle. When dial is manually turned to OFF position, heating element turns off. Suggestions on where to start?

One coil of the new heating element was bent/arched up and possibly making contact with the grounded metal casing, causing a short. I bent the element coil back in to place and reinstalled the new element assembly. Then I replaced the thermal fuse, and the dryer now seems to be operating normally. This video covered it exactly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ0lqcSa

New heating element installed incorrectly or new element found the cabinet in short order. Try try again.
