Chosen Solution

I was watching YouTube on my HP Pavilion 15-aw065sa and it slid off my lap off the side of my bed and onto the floor (about a foot and a half drop, landing on its left side if you were looking toward the screen). Now when I try to start up I am greeted with automatic repair which doesn’t work. I tried factory resetting and lots of auto repair loop fixes on YouTube in case it was a software issue and just a coincidence, but none worked. I have been meaning to take it to a PC repair shop (which is a pain as I live and work in a rural area and any close pc repair shops aren’t open on weekends) but wanted to check first if anyone had any ideas. I assume - and hope -it’s nothing serious since it will still load automatic repair, but haven’t a clue when it comes to this sort of thing. Any help is very appreciated, this PC has all my work on it! Thanks for reading.

Hi @cammyt You should run a test on your Hard Drive to see if it was damaged during the drop. Start by shutting down the PC and then follow these steps: Press the power button to turn on the computer and hold down the ESC buttonWhen the menu comes up, select the option for “System Diagnostics”Run the HDD or Hard Drive “Quick Test” and look for a “FAIL” or “PASS” If it has failed, the HDD will need to be replaced. Taking it to a computer shop will be the best chance of recovering any data off of the faulty drive.
