Hello! First I want to say I love this place, and thank you all for the time and quick responses! HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED: My mom dropped her HP Elitebook Folio 9470M, and now it won’t power on. When the charger is plugged in, only the keyboard lights and charging light power on for a brief moment before powering back off. Without it plugged in, it does nothing. Any idea what this is, and why it’s happening? I was suspecting hard drive damage, but I’m new to this, and I’m probably wrong. Thanks, -Liz
Hi @wheeljack , Was it turned on, when it was dropped? If so any ‘moving" parts may have been affected, i.e. fan and HDD (and dvd drive if operating at the time) Best course of action is to open the laptop and check what has happened. Perhaps something has obviously come loose or is broken (hopefully not). Here is a link to the service manual, which should be of some help. (click on the I’m not a robot security check and then on the green Get Manual link next to it. Then select either blue Download PDF or View in Browser link that shows up next. If nothing is obvious, start with a barebones system. Remove battery, remove HDD, remove ODD (optical disc drive), check that RAM is installed OK, plug in and turn on charger and try to start the laptop. If it starts OK, it will stop because there is no HDD but should not power down. Good luck.
