I down loaded a program, which was taking a long time so I left my computer and went to the store. When I came home my computer had shutdown. When I restarted it, it said that the computer had over heated. Everything worked fine except the drive no longer worked. I installed a new drive and that did not help. What do you thing is the problem and can it be fixed? Thanks, Jan Update Thanks for your responses. This is a Vostro 1500. I get a error 10, I have gone through the register and it still does not work. What is a bga chip? I use to build floppy disk drives years ago and have seen chips flowed before. What is strange is that everything else seems to be working fine.

Hello Jan , The overheating worries me as there could be motherboard damage. However I am including a link to a generic article on error 10 that may help you. If it does not please come back and we will look further. Ralph http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Fix-Err

if you go into the bios and cannot detect the hdd. possibly one of the bga chips on your computer needs to be reflowed.
