Dear ifixit talent, i was careless and my imac screen dropped. display/port power something on logic board was broken partially. refer to photo. J9001 printed. this part connects to a 6-line cable called 593-1353 A 0612 f. https://www.ebay.com/itm/265283593712 what is the proper name to this broken part? visual dictionary available? how to know its communicable name? any datasheet? any universal naming protocol in electronics industry to communicate it across different suppliers?
This broken part looked like a mail box. left and right side partly torn by shear force on a screen drop. the bottom side luckily undamaged. is this part 100% made up by hard plastic?i want to fix this part. should use a metallic glue such as metal grue epoxy? or unsolder and then replace with a new part?some people said it is called header, other said it is receptacle / housing. https://www.molex.com/webdocs/datasheets… . i feel lost.i feel very depressed, frusrated after my screen drop on desktop. i dun know if my screen is still alive. *Nothing is in slot, with my search by screwdriver or wire *Maximum magnification by smartphone/handheld lens / naked eyes cannot identify the barrier What is blocking my cable male connector?
The connector doesn’t seem to be completely destroyed but a little deformed. I would gently heat it with hot air to restore the opening length of the connector then try to plug the cable. If the repair works then add a drop of hot glue on the connector-cable assy to secure the connection.
@ninjasdu This broken part looked like a mail box. left and right side partly torn by shear force on a screen drop. the bottom side luckily undamaged. is this part 100% made up by hard plastic? With the exception of the contacts it is made out of plastici want to fix this part. should use a metallic glue such as metal grue epoxy? or unsolder and then replace with a new part?Gluing it will not hold the cable properly nor will it have the strength to provide proper contact. If you want to fix it, you will have to replace it. Soldering plastic connectors is a bit of a pain. Most of the time you will see that people actually melt the plastic and that causes issues. Take a look on here
You see that 3 wires connect to ground and the other 3 to the 12V rail. There are really only two connections made on this connector. That means you could remove both the cable connector and the board connector, then solder the wires directly to the board. It will all depend on your skill level.some people said it is called header, other said it is receptacle / housing…….. . i feel lost. The official name for this part is “‘‘1.25mm Pitch Wire-To-Board Connector Wafer Assembly for SMT 6 Circuits Right Angle Emboss T/R” and it is a Wire-To-Board Connector. Here is the datasheet for that connector 537808602 Sd Some places list the Molex connector as obsolete. In that case a suitable alternative would be a Hirose DF13A-6P-1.25H(76) Here is the datasheet for that. It’ll allow you to compare. Hirose DF13A 6P 1.25H(76) Datasheet Mouser.com no longer has this connector so you would need to search by part number and see if there is anybody close in your region . It is still available at places on herei feel very depressed, frustrated after my screen drop on desktop. i dun know if my screen is still alive.A few hours of cleaning and soldering the damaged parts/wires will determine on what is going on.
DP POWER Connector J9001 - Here’s a source for it MOLEX P/N 53780-8606 You’ll need to replace it, it’s not repairable.
