Hello friends. two days ago I decided to install another SSD on my mac because I’m a dj and I work with a lot of music. ok this is the case. buy a caddy to remove the cd drive and install the new solid disk that is a samsung evo 860 of 500gb that I also have as main disk. When doing the whole process, the computer does not read the SSD that is in the CD unit. Try to install the factory HHD with the caddy and you will not read it either. What can be? my model is A1278 indentifier 9.2. I wait for your help. Thank you.
Apple has a known issue in many of their MacBook Pro’s. You see the PCH chip in some is not properly clocked so many SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drives won’t work properly. In your case the faster i7 model won’t work whereas the i5 model will! Same exact PCH just the difference in the clocking makes the difference! Review this OWC - Data Doubler OWC Red note is a bit confusing as the Model listing does not point to the Red note at the bottom, yet the note its self lists the MacBookPro9,2 model. Again, this is a MacBook Pro logic board issue not the carrier its self. So if you have the i5 model you should be able to get the drive to work. If it still fails either try a second carrier in case yours is defective or not rated for SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) support or try a fixed speed SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive. Sadly, while I personally love the Samsung EVO SSD’s it is a auto sense drive and won’t latch into the needed I/O SATA speed as such won’t work. OWC does make a fixed speed SSD OWC - Mercury Electra 3G SSD which is one of the few fixed speed SSD’s still on the market.
Hi, I have the i7 version of the 13" Macbook Pro 2012. I have tried fitting a SSD in a caddy where the optical drive was, but I am getting ’error 36’, and ‘read only’ errors. It will not mount properly or format properly. Is this because it is the i7 model? Is there any way I can get the SSD to work as a second SSD in the optical drive in this model? I am using a Crucial MX500. I have also tried the WD Green SSD but also does not work. I thought the problem was possibly the cadddy, but now it seems that my i7 version is not capatible? Is there absolutley no way to get this working? Please let me know any solutions to this. Also: The caddy I am using is not the OWC one…
