Hello! I am in need of replacing my APPLE SSD 128. Its too small. I have read that performance degrades over time if TRIM isn’t supported natively and that some SSD´s have a feature called “Garbage Collection” which is an alternative to TRIM that does not require OS support.
- Does anyone know if samsung ssd 256 sata3.0Gbps or LITE-ON LAT-256M2S 2( I can get them for 250USD/each on the net) is well suited(has Garb Coll.) for my mbp?
- And if not, will TRIM Enabler for Mac groths.org work for me (OS X 10.6.8)? regards Joakim from Norway
TRIM enabler works fine with Snow Leopard, I wouldn’t recommend it for LION being that it actually replaces the Lion Kernel with the older Snow Leopard Kernel. As far as garbage collection goes, this feature is found mostly in newer SSDs. I would enable TRIM support on the OS wether the SSD has Garbage Collection or not. Now, if you ever decide to upgrade to LION do not use TRIM enabler, there is a way to modify the kernel using Terminal App.
