Does it matter if usb port boards bad if I insert charged battery should 5c work?
@mikescell ,mikeyperron1 , It would depend on whether the pins were bent over each other possibly causing short,etc. See links below to fix your 5C. 1st link is a repair guide changing the connector and 2nd link is to a replacement part, which you can also do a search on for better pricing perhaps.
