Answer is it depends. The phone will surely boot and you’ll see the desktop but front camera, upper microphone, proximity and ambient sensors and loudspeaker are all on the same cable/connector. Removing one part without affecting the others is almost impossible. However, if you got a flat cable where only the front camera went bad leaving other parts untouched and functional you could use it as it is.
Yes, if you were to disconnect the front camera of the Iphone 5 and start it, it would run. Obviously, you would not be able to use the front camera however.
