Chosen Solution

Updating your BLU phone will keep you from unlocking your phone. Spread the word.

Folks I’d suggest resetting it. I just did and it seems to be fully functional. Unfortunately though, you WILL loose ALL data including photos and pictures. It sucks, but it is sadly the only solution in this moment in time. Also, make sure to remove any SD cards because I have read there are issues if it isn’t removed when resetting. I am very disappointed with the phone and BLU as a company overall. I am definitely upgrading as soon as possible to a new phone and new and trusted brand. Customer service was garbage. Best of luck to all of you. Hopefully this can be avoided in the future. Link is here for restarting: https://www.mobileheadlines.net/blu-life

Can we start class action against Blu? I don’t want lose all my precious photos and videos.

I have submitted a request on their Blu Life One X2 contact page. I have tried contacting their customer service and ran in to the same problem of the business hours. Then I tried calling their corporate number and was informed I was the 101th person in line waiting for a call and then as I waited I was eventually rerouted and told to call back during normal business hours. I am only left with 7 attempts before my phone is wiped clean!!! This is absolutely ridiculous but at least I know I’m not alone in this insane problem

I have the same problem. How can you do a factory reset? Thank you

I did the factory reset and it came up as if it were a new phone. I had it reload all my apps and that took awhile. I made the mistake of rebooting again, it went back to the lock screen. Having to factory reset one more time. I will not turn it off or restart again. Hopefully, they will get this fixed quickly.

go to Updated phone and now I can’t unlock it for solution, a factory reset THANK YOU!

Did you have a PIN that was less than six digits? My only guess for the cause of this would be BLU forcing all PINs to be six or more digits, which would brick everyone’s phone whose PIN was too short.

To people who did the factory reset, did your phone start working again or are you still locked out?

Hey guys to all of you has that issue I factory reset my phone and it seemed to be working so far

As of right now the only thing that seems to work is factory resetting the phone. Here is a link for anyone who doesn’t know how to do a reset. http://androidroothow.pro/blu-life-one-x… (remember this will erase all data)

I wonder is it possible to install custom recovery like TWRP on this? If yes, then the screen lock should be removable. If you can boot TWRP without wiping the phone you can use the file manager on there with system partition mounted then navigate to: “/data/system/” Delete or move to another folder:

  • locksettings.db, locksettings.db-shm and locksettings.db-wal Once this is one, reboot phone from recovery and the phone should have no lock screen. I have only tested this on android 6.0.1 to 7.0 Samsung Firmware. TWRP stands for Team-Win Recovery Project, it is a custom recovery that can be used to flash custom Roms and root your phone using custom root files that are only flashable through custom recoveries. It also can be used to gain access to data in phones that are stuck in boot. Here is a guide on how to flash the TWRP recovery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general… Most likely you do not have OEM unlocking enabled (needed to flash files in fastboot mode) in the debugging options of your phone which means you may have to do a factory reset.

Had the same issue. Only option is to hard reset phone. My advice: Put BLU out of business by never buying their garbage again! We got 3 phones: one they took back due to defects (bot a Samsung), one died (bot another Samsung), and they turned the 3rd one into a brick with an untested update … all three problems in less than a year. Phone hardware is junk, service and support SUX, software is buggy, and spyware is included FREE … thanks BLU!!!

Has anyone tried entering in the password incorrectly enough times to get the phone to reset? I am getting a message along the lines of “You have (amount of tries you have left) before your phone gets wiped”

Same here. This phone started with issues from the first week I had it, as it stopped charging when plugged in. To charge, I have to plug it in, then restart it. Their only suggestions to fix was a hard reset, which I did twice with no luck. Now they want me to ship it off for up to a month for repair. Awful customer service and it appears a sub-par product.

I downloaded the update but I didn’t install it yet, thank God I googled about the update to make sure it didn’t break anything. Since I downloaded it, is there a way to delete it? I’m sure it’s a zip folder somewhere, right? Thanks for posting and i really hope BLU sorts this out tomorrow.

does anybody know anyway to copy the data from internal storage to pc ? i don’t want to lost my data :((

I have the same problem. If I do a factory reset, will the upgrade still be there? I have no info to lose, since everything is in the cloud, but before I do anything else on this phone I want to make sure of the right steps. If I factory reset and can get it to let me in, how do I find the update and delete it?

guys we know this situation is too bad, so i recommend, is anyone know the solution or some information that can help us, please share with us

Me and my husband have blu life one x2 and my husband updated and the same thing happened to him. However, i have McAfee which i clean my phone every week and a few months ago mcafee told me to disable the update app because it was a high risk app, so i did. now i am glad i listened to my antivirus, because i did not have to update, because it was disabled. if anyone gets their phone done you need to get an antivirus app and scan and clean your phone every week, if you see something that says high risk you need to disable it, unless you installed it yourself, then you can uninstall it.

I just had the same issue. Tried all my passwords, from original ones, to date of birth and ss# approx 8-9 characters or numbers. Nothing worked. Luckily I have backed up my phone. Went ahead and entered password incorrect 8 more times and phone reset back to factory. My current phone number and cell service still works. Entered gmail and backup sync for some emails etc. stuff worked, entered WiFi pass to reinstall all my apps updates etc. Working now. New phone. Reinstall all backup photos, music, contacts etc. customize screen and go about life again.

Same here. I usually wait to install updates because of this kind of junk. I use my phone for work and had to do a reset. I had been procrastinating backing up my photos and lost nearly 1000. Mostly of my kids. I’m pretty effing salty over this.

Add me to the list of !#^&@@ off people. I upgraded before the OP and thought it was just me. Can’t factory reset as I have data on my phone that I need. Hopefully Blu publishes an apology and a fix in the morning.

It almost sounds like the device gets encrypted during the update. Can someone send a picture of this? i am interested to see what this update does to the device. Has anyone thought that someone might have hacked Blu and released an update that Blu did not make that encrypts the device during the update to make it unusable?

This is just a shot in the dark but try entering 0’s for the password. Sometimes that is used for new setups. If it doesn’t work you haven’t lost anything. Just enter them until it accepts or rejects the first time.

I had the same problem. I waited on hold for 90 minutes before they told me that they are aware of the problem and that there is nothing they can do. You will have to do a factory reset of your phone. I hoped you backed up your data. I did not. They have stopped all updates until they fix the problem but for you and me it is too late.

I have followed the same process. Called Blu and after 1 1/2 hours on the phone they hung up on me. Called back and they have a recording stating they are aware of the issue, and they’re working “AROUND THE CLOCK” to fix it. Don’t see how they could fix it. Can they push a fix to all affected phones while they are inoperable? Most data I have is on Google services, except my texts. I have some important info that I will lose if I reset. I was thinking of giving them a day to fix the issue, but the same question keeps coming to me, Can they push a fix to all affected phones while they are inoperable?

Is it possible that this update was actually malware and our passwords, etc are now compromised?

I did the factory reset but when I get to the step where it asks me if I want to revive BLU notifications, a message pops up that says “Unfortunately, settings has stopped.” Help?

I got talked to the blue company yesterday and now my husbands phone works, what you have to do is type anything in the password box until you get down to zero attempts, it will completely erase your phone, but you will be able to set up your phone like it was when you bought it.

Try sending a support request through http://bluproducts.com/contact/support/ , perhaps if they receive many formal requests they will solve it faster. I am waiting for them to answer how to proceed.

Resetting it will wipe all local data, so if you do not have your data synced with your cloud account that is great. You won’t be able plug it into your computer and access your data either, I tried with no luck. The update ruined my display 3/4 is translucent. I contacted BLU twice and spoke with a representative that asked me to fill out information in an email he sent me. My phone is out of warranty by 16 days, pathetic! Okay, so if you want to reset your phone with the risk of losing phone only stored data then: Shutdown the phone and hold power and volume button to do a factory reset.

Has anyone tried using one of those android data recovery/extraction, after doing the factory reset? to get pictures and data back. I got some pictures that would really hate to lose, but also kind of need my phone working…

Solution can be found here: Updated phone and now I can’t unlock it

I guess finding a fix is going to take some reading. I contacted blu and they sent me the directions and “patch” Everything was going well and I was starting to feel a little more relaxed. Then I get the message that my pin was correct but my data is corrupted. When you read the directions if the patch doesn’t work they then instruct you to do what you’ve been waiting a week to see fixed. I’m not familiar with law jargon, but doesn’t intentionally bricking on the user end just protect blu from warranty claims?

I wiped and rebooted several times and wasnt able to get past the security registration with Blu. Some one mentioned not sysncing with Google but skipping all that stuff, I tried that and finally I am in. I left out the sim card and sd card as well. Good luck

I just removed the battery for 10 seconds, reinstalled it, held the start button down and the phone booted right up. “Starting Security Update” on first screen with a large ring of rainbow colors swirling as it works. That took a couple minutes, got the BLU startup screen action as usual. “Your system is up to date” screen next. Settings, photos, music untouched. Sometimes the easy way is the best.
