Model A1286. running OS Catalina 10.15.6. No spills and not dropped. Cursor is slow, jumps around, sometimes opens windows without me selecting them, etc. Battery shows to be good. I also removed battery to see if swelled or other signs of damage. seems fine. Cleaned dust off, reconnected and recalibrated. Still doesn’t work properly. Should I replace touchpad? And cable to touchpad as well? If replacing touchpad and cable, from what I have seen online it appears the touchpad for the 13” and 15” are the same. However, I haven’t yet found where the 15” cable connects, but are the cables the same as well? Thanks any and everyone
Despite two apps showing the battery is good, I decided to change it. It was original battery so was very old. I put in a new battery and it seems to be working now.
Most of the time this is caused by a swollen battery pressing on the bottom of the trackpad. Open it up and get it out ASAP as if the swelling continues it can crack your trackpad. MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2012 Battery Replacement
Heres the guide to replace the trackpad MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2012 Trackpad Replacement and the needed part: Trackpad & cable, Apple P/N 922-9749 But before you do that how about try cleaning the trackpad edge after taking it out. Use a Cotton swab slightly damp with 85% or better isopropyl alcohol. Also I would still check the battery using this app CoconutBattery post a snapshot of the apps window here for us to see Adding images to an existing question
Try force restarting your mac/reset NVRAM. Happened to me, I just restarted my mac and it worked fine again. My thought is that the drivers didn’t load while booting up.
