I just need to know if I need to use a specific kind of thermal compound for my processor?
No Arctic Silver or any similar will work fine… remember to completely clean the old off all surfaces. Similar guide:Installing Thermal Paste. Remember to return and mark accepted the answer that best solves your problem. Good luck, N
I’d agree with machead except my answer is no, and yes, generally all thermal paste is the same, but you want to know your sources and buy decent quality paste. The 1 cent a gram from china might not be the best for your electronics. And in my book, it’s worth it to spend a few bucks extra on thermal paste than hundreds later on fried components.
certainly you need a thermal compund, any kind of it, they are designed to transfer the hot, not to cool your chip or processor. fan do it. first you have to remove the old one (i mean the thermal compound) when you dissasembly the fan, microprocessor and heatsink. second you have to apply new one and try to put just enought. hope you can!
