Chosen Solution

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you a question. I recently bought a SSD for my PS5, it is the Samsung 980 Pro. As the manufacturer say, there is a “Smart thermal solution” that manages heat on its own. Many people don’t put any heatsink but others do. Can you say me, if I can continue to use it without heatsink?

Hello everyone, I wanted to thank you for your precious time and show you what solution I have adopted.

Sony says you do, follow their instructions. https://www.playstation.com/en-us/suppor… “Smart thermal solution” just means it will slow itself down or even shut itself off when it overheats, which isn’t really a solution.

So there is a very good video that LTT made on this exact topic, which I will link here for your viewing pleasure. To give you the spark notes of it as long as you are not operating at extreme temperatures, ideally, between 0° C and 70° C you should be fine.

It’s always recommended to use a heat sink with a ssd in a ps5. Google it.
