I’ve got an iPhone 5s and when I plug in my headphones, there is an awful distortion. I replaced the headphone jack/lightning assembly with the same result. The problem is that if I don’t push the headphones in all the way, they sound fine. It’s just the last “click” where it goes wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

Alex, Try a different set of head phones, making sure it is compatible with your I phone, some of the connection tips vary in size and shape and yours sounds like it is not making proper connection. You can also try this at your own discretion, with a pair of pliers bend the tip on head phone pin slightly and try. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Use toothpick. Also use a ear-swab (with some alcohol). Then see if you can get the sprig out in the proper position. It is probably stuck. That’s the piece that holds the plug in place. You should see it when you look inside with flashlight and magnifier.

I already replaced the jack so it shouldn’t be an issue. I’ll give it a shot either way.

I’m having the same issue.
